Animal Problem

On January 12, 2024 approximately 11:30 AM, police responded to 439 Harrison Ave in reference to an animal complaint. PO made contact with the complainant Kelly Vandegrift and the victim Christina Laycox. Christina is a postal worker who advised she was on her normal delivery route in the 400 block of Harrison Avenue, when two German Shepherd’s began chasing her. Christina stated that she began running from them and grabbed the mace she keeps in her bag. Christina stated she sprayed both K9s multiple times and they continued to be aggressive and lunge towards her. In the process of spraying the K9s, and due to wind, Christina also got mace in her right eye. Christina advised she was not physically injured or bitten during this encounter. Kelly Vandegrift at 439 Harrison saw this incident occurring and yelled for Christina to take shelter in her home. The K9s continued to roam the 400 block of Harrison once Christina was safely inside the home. Christina’s face was visibly irritated and her right eye was shut and watering. Christina was then transported by Greenville Rescue to Wayne Hospital for further evaluation. While speaking to Kelly and Christina from the porch, the K9s charged at PO from down the street and began barking at him. PO also observed the k9′ s going through several other yards while PO was on scene. Through investigation and following the loose K9s, PO learned that they belonged to Erica and Craig Goubeaux at 425 Harrison Ave. The back gate of the residence was open. Erica then arrived at the residence and stated that the K9s were hers and she got a notification from a tracking app that is connected to their collars. Erica secured the gate and located the K9s on Walker St. Erica was able to secure them into her vehicle, before returning to her residence. After the K9s were secured, Erica was issued a citation for Dog at large and given her copy. PO then made contact again with Christina at Wayne Hospital where she filled out a written statement, a victim’s rights form and a medical release of information.

Assault

On January 12, 2024 at approximately 1:11 PM police responded to 215 W Main St. in reference to a welfare check for Joseph Egan. Officers were contacted by Jessica Alldredge who is a doctor for the Dayton VA hospital. Jessica stated that Joseph had called their helpline earlier today and made statements about murdering his neighbor Charles Vargo, if he did not stop harassing him. Jessica advised that she wanted Joseph to be involuntarily admitted to a hospital for a mental evaluation (a pink slip). Jessica filled out a statement and e-mailed it to officers. Police made contact with Joseph at the front door. Joseph invited police inside. Joseph admitted to calling the VA earlier today but stated that he did not make any suicidal or homicidal statements. Due the statement provided by Jessica, it was decided that Joseph would be pink slipped for a mental evaluation. After advising Joseph we were going to take him to the hospital, Joseph became agitated and began raising his voice and taking his clothing and glasses off and getting into a fighting stance. Joseph also made statements that “he has assaulted Police in the past and he is not afraid to go to jail for it again”. Joseph was then placed into handcuffs due to his erratic behavior and statements made. Officers assisted Joseph in putting his shoes on for him to be transported to a hospital. As officers began to escort him out of the front door, Joseph became agitated again and started stepping towards a PO in an aggressive manner. Joseph then kicked the PO in the groin. Joseph was then taken to the ground to be restrained by POs. Joseph was then taken advised he was under arrest for Assault and read his Miranda Warning. Joseph was then transported to the Darke County Jail where he was released to jail staff. Due to the victim of the assault being a Police Officer, the charge is enhanced to a fourth degree Felony.

Theft

On January 13th, 2024, at approximately 10:21 PM police was dispatched to 1501 Wagner Avenue; Walmart, in reference to a theft. PO made contact with employee Jodi Edgar. Jodi was with the suspect, April Miller and April’s 14 year old daughter in the lost prevention office. Jodi stated that she observed the two subjects placing cosmetic items on top of the daughter’s purse next to her backpack, in the shopping cart. The two subjects proceeded to the crafts section of the store. April placed items in her pocket while the daughter watched for Walmart employees. The two subjects proceeded through out the store concealing more miscellaneous items. Both subjects paid for grocery items at register 25. They then proceeded out the door and passed all points of sale and was stopped on the sidewalk outside of the store with the concealed stolen items. Jodie filled out a witness statement and a victim’s rights form. PO spoke to April who admitted to stealing all items that were recovered. April stated that she had her daughter assist her in stealing the items. Jodi advised they did not want to press charges on the daughter and only April. In total April stole 51 items totaling at $426. 97. All items were returned to Walmart.

Wanted Person

On January 14th, 2024 at approximately 01:02AM police observed the listed 2007 Chrysler traveling east bound on East Main Street. The vehicle did not have its taillights on nor did it have a license plate light illuminated. PO conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Magno Guzman-Zunun. PO checked Magno’s social security number through dispatch. Dispatch advised Magno had a warrant for his arrest on a traffic offense out of Richmond Indiana. Magno was placed in handcuffs and was placed in the back seat of the cruiser. Magno was transported to the Darke County Jail and was released to Jail staff.

DUI

On January 17, 2024 at approximately 3:24 PM police responded to 1237 Sweitzer St, Mcdonald’s; in reference to a male passed out at the wheel of a vehicle. PO observed a red Chevy S-10 bearing Ohio registration JBW4484 sitting at the first drive through window. PO approached the passenger side door and made contact with the driver, Edward Davis and his 5 year old son who was in the passenger seat. Edward admitted that the child was his biological son and was responsible for his well being. Edward was disoriented but awake and talking upon PO’s arrival. PO observed Edward to have slowed and slurred speech and pinpoint pupils. PO also observed Edwards face to be pale. Edward admitted to driving prior to PO’s arrival. PO then told Edward to pull into the parking lot to speak to him. Edward advised he wanted to pay for his food first. While attempting to pay the cashier, Edward continued to have trouble looking for his money. Once Edward got his money out, he passed out again. All of the clues that PO observed to this point are indicators of opiate intoxication. Edward was instructed to pull his car around to the side of the parking lot. Once he pulled around PO had Edward exit the vehicle to perform Field Sobriety Testing. Edward performed poorly on the standardized field tests. Due to Edward’s poor performance on the field sobriety testing, as well as, the indicators PO observed prior to the tests, Edward was placed under arrest into handcuffs. Edward was mirandized upon arrest. Edward was transported to the Greenville Police Department and was read the BMV2255. Edward was also provided a copy to follow along. Edward voluntarily provided a breath sample. Edward’s breathalyzer results showed a breath alcohol content of.000. Edward also attempted to give a urine sample but was unable to. While on station filling out paperwork, Edward passed out several times sitting in the chair. Due to Edward being unable to provide a sample, another PO filled out a request for a search warrant for Edward’s blood, that was signed by Municipal Court Judge Monnin. PO transported Edward to Wayne Hospital, where his blood was drawn by hospital staff. Edward passed out again while he was at the Hospital. PO then transported Edward back to his residence at 416 E Fourth St., where he was released to his fiance Brianna Brickler. Edward was issued citations for DUI and Child Endangering, reference having his son in the vehicle. Edward was given his copies and advised of his court date. Edward has no prior OVI convictions. While at McDonald’s, PO also made contact with Sarah and Luther Bradley. Sarah is an employee at McDonald’s and Luther is her husband. Sarah stated that Edward sat at the speaker in the drive through for at least seven minutes without saying anything. They asked him to pull around and he pulled around partially before passing out again. Sarah filled out a written statement. Luther stated that he was there to pick Sarah up from work when he saw Edward nodding out in his red S-10 for several minutes. Luther also stated that Edward was hitting himself in the head to attempt to keep himself awake. Luther filled out a written statement. Edward’s son was released to his grandmother Lisa Brickler at McDonald’s. PO also contact Darby Keller with Children’s Services to notify them of this incident.

Wanted Person

On January 18, 2024 at approximately 11:05 PM a traffic stop was conducted in the 800 block of Sweitzer Street. PO observed the defendant; Terry Gilbert in the listed maroon 2002 GMC Envoy with Indiana commemorative license plate BXE732. Terry has a felony warrant from the Adult Parole Authority for a parole violation. Dispatch confirmed Terry’s warrant and he was taken into custody. Terry was placed into handcuffs and was searched incident to arrest with no contraband being located. While in custody Terry stated that he had been staying on “State Line” in Union City for a “couple weeks”. When questioned later at the jail Terry stated that he still lived on Eleventh Street in Greenville. Terry was transported to the Darke County Jail where the jail staff took custody of him.
