Traffic Stop

January 13

On January 13, app 2:10PM P.O. Daugherty conducted a traffic stop at 300 Martin Street. The vehicle, a grey Honda Civic was bearing Ohio license plate HSU6732. It was found through LEADS/NCIC that the registered owner was not valid and had failure to reinstate, along with the vehicle registration being expiring on September 3rd 2022. During the traffic stop Macy Zehringer, who was not the registered owner of the vehicle, reached into the glove box of the vehicle to retrieve a registration, when P.O. Daugherty noticed a Apex Delta Gen 2 black handgun in a black holster sitting in the glove box. Macy was instructed to keep her hands up and on the steering wheel. P.O. Daugherty retrieved the firearm that was found unloaded with no ammunition. Macy stated that the firearm belonged to Shane Grant her boyfriend who is the son of the vehicle’s registered owner, Shawn Grant. Macy stated that Shane purchased the firearm from MM Defense weeks earlier. Macy stated that she was only 20 years old making her unable to possess/conceal a firearm in the vehicle legally and she was not aware that Shane had the firearm in the vehicle. The check of the serial number of the weapon returned stolen out of Philadelphia Police Department in Pennsylvania. Macy was then placed in the back of P.O. Daugherty’s patrol vehicle and read her Miranda rights as The P.o. continued our investigation to make sure the weapon was confirmed stolen. After further investigation and having dispatch speak with the Philadelphia police department it was found the firearm that they reported stolen was a stainless ECW brand 9mm handgun from a 1992 report. The police department also informed the GPD’s dispatch that the firearm found in the vehicle was not their stolen one and to disregard. After speaking with the Prosecutors office it was decided that due to the vehicle not belonging to Macy and the firearm not being loaded, Macy was released from the traffic stop and the firearm was transported by P.O. Daugherty to the owner, Shane at 400 North Gray Avenue Greenville OH. 45331.

Trespassing

January 14

On January 14th, 2023, at approximately 6:34PM P.O. Monnin was dispatched to 1501 Wagner Avenue in reference to a complaint made by a Walmart Loss Prevention employee, Jodi Edgar. Jodi advised there was a subject in the store she thought may have been stealing recently and she wanted that person trespassed. Upon his arrival through the pharmacy side entrance P.O. Monnin witnessed a separate subject who he knew as Stephen Bright. Stephen was attempting to exit the store through the Pharmacy Side exit but he saw P.O. Monnin and immediately started walking south inside the store to the grocery exits. P.O. Monnin yelled for Stephen but he refused to turn around and kept walking. P.O. Monnin caught up to Stephen and confirmed his identity while he was still inside the store. Walmart advised they have record of him being trespassed on October of 2020. Greenville Police Department has record that Stephen was trespassed again on May 13th, 2022 by Officer Robbins. Stephen was detained and a citation was issued. Walmart completed a victim’s rights form and a statement. Walmart also provided surveillance video of Stephen inside the store.

Assisting another Agency

January 12

On January 12, 2023 at 3:20 PM, P.O. Jones was dispatched to 504 S. Broadway Street, Darke County Court House, in reference to an intoxicated female. Upon arrival, P.O. Jones made contact with probation officer Doug Henning who advised that he had video of Venessa Ferguson driving into the parking lot. When she came inside for her meeting with him he noticed she had been drinking. He then used a PBT to do a breath test, which the results came back at .310. Doug then advised court staff had located an empty body of an alcoholic beverage believed to be hers in a bathroom. He stated that he would like the GPD to charge Venessa with OVI and that he was going to violate her probation. P.O. Jones advised Doug that due to all of the circumstances that the GPD would not be able to pursue charges for OVI. He advised that he understood then arrested Venessa for a Probation Violation. P.O. Jones transported her to the Darke County Jail where she was incarcerated at the request of Doug.

Trash Dumping

January 17

On January 17, 2023 at 10:10 AM, P.O. Jones was dispatched to 408 E. Fifth Street in reference to a trash complaint. Various pieces of trash were scattered throughout the front porch and small pieces of trash along both sides of the residence. P.O. Jones attempted to make contact with a resident of the home but was not able to get an answer. He then made contact with Safety Service Director Ryan Delk, who advised there should not be anyone living at the residence and a bank had taken over ownership. The Darke County Auditor’s website has Pennymac Loan Services LLC as the owners of the residence. An attempted to make contact with them was not successful.
