Theft

January 26

On January 26, 2023 at 01:33 AM Offcers were dispatched to 205 Rhoades Avenue, in reference to a vehicle alarm, which had been activated twice within a fifteen minute period. The rear cargo light of a 2003 gray Ford F150 in the driveway of 205 Rhoades Avenue was on and the right-rear passenger door was ajar. The owner, Brett Kane, indicated a Sentry safe containing cash, silver certificates, Oxycodone tablets and other items as well as a backpack with content were stolen from the rear seat area of the Ford F150. Brett Kane indicated the last known time he knew the items were in his vehicle was on January 25, 2023 at 10 PM and at that time, the vehicle was locked. There were no signs of forced entry. Brett Kane stated there are times, the rear doors on the involved vehicle will not lock when utilizing the vehicle’s key fob. One set of old, iced over footprints located in the snow on the driver’s side of the involved vehicle could be seen. The officers did not observe any type of footprints on the roadway leading to/from the involved vehicle/driveway.

Theft/Shoplifting

January 16

On January 16th, 2023 at approximately 9:36PM an officer was dispatched to Walmart, located at 1501 Wagner Avenue, Greenville, on the report of a shoplifting complaint. Dispatch advised the two male suspects had left in a red Jeep, traveling northbound on Wagner Avenue, after being approached by the Asset Protection Associate. The surveillance system showed two men at the self-checkouts, one of them identified as Michael Brown. The Asset Protection Associate advised she observed the unidentified male take stickers off one of items in the crafts department that were less than $1, and place those stickers on more expensive items. The men then went to the self checkouts where only the unidentified male scanning the barcodes of the cheaper items that he had placed over the original barcodes. Both men got into the red SUV, possibly a Jeep, and left the scene. The Asset Protection Associate advised she would like the unidentified male charged with theft if identified and located. She did not see Michael participate in the barcode switching, and did not see him scan any of the items with the cheaper barcodes, therefore she did not want him charged.

Forgery

January 26

On January 26, 2023 at 11:40 AM, an officer was dispatched to 201 Wagenr Avenue, Speedway, in reference to a forgery complaint. The store manager advised that she had a male come into the store and attempt to pay for items with three counterfeit $20 bills. When the store manager advised him that the money was counterfeit, he told her that he had just gotten them from his boss. The manager attempted to get the male’s name but he would not give it to her and left the store without any items he was attempting to pay for with the counterfeit money.

January 27

On January 27, 2023 at 07:59 AM, an officer was dispatched to 690 Wagner Avenue, Greenville Federal Bank, in reference to a forgery complaint. A bank employee advised he had a female subject cash two fraudulent checks at both banks in Greenville. He stated that she cashed a check at the Greenville Federal Bank location at 200 Lease Avenue. The check was cashed on January 21, 2023 at 09:22 AM. The female then goes to the Greenville Federal Bank at 690 Wagner Avenue. She then cashes a check at this location at 09:28 AM on January 21, 2023. Both checks were from the same company in the same amount. The bank employee advised that the female had opened an account with Greenville Federal Bank on January 19, 2023, providing a Kentucky drivers license. On January 20, 2023 she had deposited money into the account. She had provided a Kentucky driver’s license to the bank. LEADS/NCIC didn’t get a return on the license number or the name and DOB. The bank employee stated that the same female had cashed similar checks at the branches in Tipp City, OH and Troy, OH. The female was not known at the address she had provided to the bank.

Warrant / Fugitive

January 28

On January 28th, 2023, at approximately 5:22 PM an officer recognized a male subject at 201 Wagner Avenue, Speedway. He was familiar with the subject and knew him to be Damon Gilbert. Through LEADS/NCIC it was confirmed that Damon had an active Felony warrant. The warrant was for Parole Violation through the State of Ohio on original charge of theft, no bond. Damon was arrested and while searching Damon the officer located an unknown substance with the appearance of methamphetamine. Damon was transported to the Darke County Jail and released to staff.

January 29

On January 29, 2023 at approximately 11:57 PM officers were dispatched to the 600 block of East Fourth Street reference a suspicious person complaint. Dispatch advised that there was a female subject walking in the roadway wearing a red jacket and white sweatpants. Dispatched advised that the complaint advised the female was stumbling around and eventually fell over in the roadway. An officer located the female subject and another male subject behind CVS Pharmacy at 1009 East Main Street. The female subject identified herself as Danniel Elliott. The male subject identified himself as Christopher Elliott. Dispatch ran Christopher and confirmed that he as an active felony warrant out of the Darke County Sheriffs Office on an original charge of aggravated possession of a controlled substance with no bond. When approached Christopher took off running from the officers. Christopher fell and the officers were able to gain control of Christopher. Christopher was searched incident to arrest and suspected narcotics were located on Christopher. He was transported to the Darke County Jail where he was incarcerated with no bond. One officer was transported to Wayne Hospital due to having pain in his right ankle. During the struggle with Christopher, the officer’s right ankle was broken. Another officer had several bleeding cut marks on his knee.
