Helping kids in the agriculture field is her calling

GREENVILLE-  A full time FFA teacher at Versailles, Dena Wuebker has been doing the same thing for 29 years at the fair.

At the fair, she is a member of the sale committee and is there to provide assistance as well as providing advice to the 4H kids with their projects.

“I help oversee the sales in the poultry barn as well as help with things in the dairy barn,” Wuebker said. “I also help with multiple buyer sheets for the local buyers.”

After 29 years, many would bet tired or bored doing the same thing year after year.

This isn’t the case with Wuebker.

“Doing this is very rewarding be cause it brings the communities together and I watch the kids grow in the process,” Wuebker stated. “It’s nice to be able to support the youth of Darke County. It’s not like this in other counties. The local support isn’t the same as it is here. Last year, a quarter of a million dollars was spent on the kids. It’s nice to have that kind of support. I hope the kids realize that they live in a community that supports them.”

It’s also a learning experience for the kids.

“Here, they are learning skills that will last them a lifetime,” Wuebker stated. “There’s a lot of work that goes in to this and I really enjoy what I do here.”

Wuebker finished by saying that many people work behind the scenes as volunteers. People that make sure the sales go off without a hitch.
