Hines continues a family tradition

GREENVILLE- At the ripe old age of 22, Peyton Hines, is a third generation swine judge.

She might be young but the industry of swine and the kids is in her blood.

“I do this because it’s all about the drive and helping the kids by sharing my experience. There were several times I would take one of the kids aside to give them a few pointers.” exclaimed Hines. “I try to be the best judge I can be but I don’t have a problem with teaching also.”

Like many others, Hines started at a very young age.

“I started showing when I was three,” said Hines. “I grew up on a small farm in Quincy, Michigan and I will be doing this until the day I die.”

It’s obvious to many that Hines has a passion for judging and pointed out that it all boils down to one thing.

“I’m really want to see how well the shower and the pig works together,” said Hines. “It’s all about the teamwork between the handler and the animal. How well the two can work together is huge for me as a judge. I want these kids to be successful in the industry and if I can help them with some advice, then the ability to pay it forward makes it all worthwhile.”

Hines finished by saying, “if I could tell a new kid that is just beginning,  I’d tell them to never give up. It’s all about the drive and the heart.”
