John “Abe” Alan Newbauer

JANUARY 6, 1946 – JANUARY 15, 2023

John Alan “Abe” Newbauer age 77, of Rossburg passed away at 9:10 pm Sunday, January 15, 2023, at his sister’s residence in Greenville.

John was born January 6, 1946, in Troy to the late Robert D. & Lois Maxine (Hoover) Newbauer. John was also preceded in death by his wife, R. Carlyn (Van DePitte) Newbauer on November 30, 1995, whom he married July 29, 1967; an unborn grandchild; brothers, Donald, Merle and Charlie Newbauer; and sister, Roberta Newbauer.

John is survived by his children, John A. & Carrie Newbauer II of New Bremen, Hannie Marie & Mark Wolfe of St. Marys, Jason A. & Anna Newbauer of Greenville and Jansen Newbauer of Palestine; grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Lydia, Monique, Marilyn, Magdalena, Rose & Travis Wooten, Thomas, Brianna, James, Xander and Jackson; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Bentley, Ellie and one expected; sisters, Ruth E. Avery (Newbauer) of Greenville and Lynn Newbauer of Greenville; brother-in-law, Theodore Van DePitte of Dayton; lifelong friend, Stan Cox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John graduated in 1967 from Ansonia High School. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. John retired from the Union City Body Company. He attended the Hollansburg Congregational Christian Church. John was a member of the Greenville American Legion. He was a former volunteer fireman for Rossburg. John was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed tying his own fishing lures. He enjoyed Indian music, traveling to Cherokee, North Carolina, drawing and painting.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 20, 2023, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in Ansonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Full military honors will be conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Darke County Veterans Service, Greenville American Legion or EverHeart Hospice in Greenville.
