Lady Hawks Bowling Team Makes the Cut at Sectionals

The Southwest Ohio Sectional Bowling Tournament for Division 2 was held at Marion Lanes in Huber Heights.  The Lady Blackhawks competed against 22 other schools including their three MWOBL rivals. In game one of the regular game round, MV started out well, hitting their marks and picking up spares to get their second highest total of the season, a 769, which put them in 8th place.  Changing lanes, the Blackhawks started having a little trouble finding the head pin in game two.  Luckily some of the other teams did too, so they fell a little in the standings but kept above the cut in 12th place. Moving one more time for game three, they got back into the groove and made their marks, scoring a 715 and keeping their 12th place spot in the standings to go into the baker game round.

They were only 36 pins behind 11th place Southeastern, but 13th place West Liberty-Salem was only 28 pins behind MV as they started the bakers.  The Blackhawks started out well, keeping steady with Southeastern and WLS.  Then MV let up a little, with a low scoring 2nd and 3rd game, letting WLS get a 54 pin lead which dropped the Blackhawks to 13th.  After another pep talk and a little switch in the order, MV came back with a good 4th game and a team high game of 206 in the 5th.  The 6th was do or die and the Blackhawks posted a medium score to end the day.

Waiting for the results, which were going to be close, The Lady Blackhawks relaxed, had some fun, and hoped for a great outcome.  Finally, the 12 teams moving on to Districts were announced and MV made the cut, gaining back the 12th place spot by 18 pins over WLS.

They will travel to Beaver-Vu Lanes on Wednesday, February 22, to compete at the SW District Tournament, along with Fort Loramie who placed 3rd and several bowlers from Russia and Ansonia who advanced as individuals. The MWOBL represented well and all of the coaches were pleased.
