Marlene Bettinger

February 6, 1937 – February 27, 2024

Anna ‘Marlene’ Bettinger, age 87 of Coldwater, died on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at The Gardens of St. Henry. She was born on February 6, 1937 in Frenchtown to the late Lewis & Edna (McEldowney) Baltes. On July 4, 1960, she married LaVern Bettinger and he preceded her in 2000.

She is survived by her eight children, Brad Bettinger of Coldwater, Nadine & Lou Kunk of Coldwater, Keith & Angie Bettinger of Anna, Dana & Jeff Grieshop of Coldwater, Kristina & Eric Niekamp of Coldwater, Kelley & Mark Baker of Coldwater, Kimberly & Scott Wendel of Ft. Recovery, and David & Stacie Bettinger of Coldwater; 29 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.; sibling and in-laws, Joe Baltes of New York, Clete & Carolyn Baltes of Maine, Helen Lovell of California, Carolyn Phelan of Versailles, Deb & Paul Eaton of Nevada, Grace Rutschilling of Coldwater, and Carl & Ruth Bettinger of Coldwater.

She was preceded in death by siblings and in-laws, Gene & Betty Baltes, Rose Mary & Tom Raterman, LouEdna & Floyd Fullenkamp, Linda Baltes, Jim Phelan, Herman & Rita Bettinger, Seraphim & Clarina Lefeld, Harold & Lucille Bergman, Paul & Angie Bettinger, Clete & Margie Griesdorn, Paul Rutschilling, Clete & Norma Bettinger, and Bob & Barb Bettinger. 

Marlene was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater. She was also a member of the St. Ann’s Ladies Sodality, the Coldwater VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer at Mercer Health Hospital in Coldwater. Marlene was an avid reader and sports fan, notably the Coldwater Cavaliers, and she loved following all the activities and events of her children and grandchildren.

A public Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Memorial contributions may be made to EverHeart Hospice. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com
