Maureen H McCabe

MARCH 18, 1932 – MARCH 30, 2023

Maureen H. McCabe, age 91, of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1:41 PM, at The Brethren’s Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 18, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Ralph & LuVerna (McCutcheon) Hemmerly. Maureen had worked at Citizens State Bank for 30 years, and also at Walmart for 9 years, before retiring in 2006. She was a member of Fort Jefferson United Methodist Church, where she was a member of, and held numerous offices in, the Women’s Society, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and did local and regional mission outreach. In her free time, she enjoyed reading her bible, sewing, gardening, dancing, singing, and playing the piano. Maureen loved her grandchildren, and often wrote letters to them, with stamps enclosed to encourage a response. She had an amazing heart of gold, made a big impact on all who knew her and had a way of making everyone feel important and special. She will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Hemmerly, Jr., David M. Hemmerly, Howard Hemmerly, and by her sisters Barbara J. Fisher and Dorothy Workman.

She is survived by her children, Mark & Marilyn McCabe, Miriam Wells & John Metelko, Mitch & Minetta McCabe, Marty & Connie McCabe, and grandchildren, Janice McCabe, Andrew & Tonya McCabe, Carmen & Melvyn Nieves, Vanessa & Ben Broerman, Sam & Elizabeth McCabe, Hillary Holzapfel, Chloe & Canaan Stanley, Lucas McCabe, Will McCabe, Zach McCabe, Hannah & Sean Germain, and Noah McCabe, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at The Brethren’s Home and EverHeart Hospice for their wonderful care of Maureen.

Friends may call on the family from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023, at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Funeral Service to be held on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 at 1:00 PM with Pastors Bill Davis and Todd Reish presiding. Burial to follow at Greenville Union Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio.
