Theft (not in progress)
On April 20, 2024 at approximately 9:08 PM police was dispatched to 849 East Main Street; The Laundry Room in reference to a theft not in progress. PO spoke with complainant/victim; Thomas Hunt who stated that he left a small black cash pouch containing keys and money inside the laundromat overnight on accident which had been taken. When Thomas and victim; Danielle Hunt reviewed the video surveillance footage of the business they observed a man take the pouch which resulted in them contacting the police. Thomas and Danielle are the owners of The Laundry Room. Thomas stated that the small black cash pouch was left on a chair in the middle of the business near a table and its contents included keys as well as approximately $800 in cash. After reviewing the footage PO learned that at approximately 1:00 AM on April 20, 2024 the suspect enters the business and proceeds to do his laundry before leaving at approximately 4AM. The suspect can be seen to lay several items in the chair where the cash pouch had been left in as he proceeded to do his laundry. The suspect can then be seen collecting his belongings and placing them in a bag getting ready to leave the business after which the cash pouch can no longer be seen in the chair. The suspect can be described as a white male with a brown beard and wearing tan/khaki shirt and pants with a blue bandana on his head. It appears that the shirt the suspect is wearing during the incident might be a work shirt with a Home Depot logo sewn on the left breast pocket. The immediate area surrounding the business was searched for the missing black pouch but it was unable to be located. The area along the Greenville Creek to the North of the business and underneath the East Main Street bridge was searched with the bag not being able to be located. Thomas completed a witness statement and victim rights form that will be attached to this report. Thomas stated that he will make a copy of the video footage of the incident and bring it to the Police Department. When the video footage is received it will be placed into property as evidence. An image of the suspect was placed into the briefing log in an attempt to identify the suspect.
Wanted Person
On April 23rd, 2024, at approximately 1:51 PM police observed a White 2000 Dodge Dakota being operated east bound on Martin Street near Gray Avenue. Through LEADS/NCIC PO confirmed the owner of the vehicle had an active warrant through Missouri for Probation Violation with a nationwide extradition, bond $2,500. A traffic stop was made on the listed vehicle and the owner, Dallas Moreland, was confirmed to be the operator of the listed vehicle. PO confirmed Dallas’ identity with a driver’s license and it was confirmed with the warrant. Dallas was arrested and placed into the rear of the cruiser. Dallas was transported to the Darke County Jail and released to staff.
Theft (not in progress)
On April 25, 2024 at approximately 11:35 AM police responded to 5187 Childrens Home Bradford Road; Venture Express, reference a theft from a vehicle. PO made contact with Chlorinda (Cory) Hocker, who is the manager at Venture Express. Cory stated that this morning when she arrived at work, she was notified by an employee, Shawn Jackson, that several items were missing out of his International work truck, which was parked in the parking lot. Cory stated that the items missing were a Blue Parrot wireless headset, and several miscellaneous supplies for the truck, including windshield wiper fluid and fuel injector fluid. Cory stated that she reviewed video from the dash camera inside of the truck and found that the items were taken at around 7PM on 4/24/24. Cory was able to show PO the video. In the video, a white/silver Chevy SUV can be seen pulling up to the passenger side of the truck. The suspect exits the SUV and speaks to another subject that is driving a Silver Equinox. The suspect then opens the passenger side door and begins taking items out of the truck and placing them into the passenger seat of the white/silver SUV, before leaving. The suspect is wearing dark clothing with a hood, and was also wearing gloves. Cory stated that she believed the suspect to be Matthew Saintignon. Cory filled out a written statement and a victims rights form. PO then spoke to Shawn over the phone. Shawn stated that when he came into work this morning, he noticed that several items were missing from his truck including his headset and miscellaneous work items for the truck. Shawn stated that the headset was valued at approximately $200 and that he did not give anyone permission to take anything out of the truck or to enter the truck. Shawn also stated that he lives several houses down from Matthew on Hunter Road, and both vehicles seen in the video were at Matthew’s house the evening of 4/25/24. Shawn will be in at a later date to fill out a written statement and a victims rights form. After reviewing the video, the subject was identified as Matthew Saintignon. On 4/26/24 PO went to 4295 Hunter Road to make contact with Matthew. Both vehicles from the video were in the driveway, and Matthew admitted to both offenses, stating he needed anti-freeze because his car was overheating. PO was also able to recover the wireless headset from Matthew. Matthew was issued citations for Theft and Vehicle Trespass and also warned for trespassing at 5187 Childrens Home Bradford Road. A copy of the video from the truck will also be attached to this report as evidence, as well as my body camera video. Photos were taken of the stolen headset and it will be released to Shawn when he comes to fill out paperwork.
Shoplifting
On April 27th 2024 at approximately 2:13 PM police was dispatched to 1501 Wagner Avenue; Walmart in reference to a theft. PO made contact with Walmart employee Jodi Edgar. Jodi was with suspect Misty Wentworth, in the loss prevention office. Jodi stated she observed Misty take a black swimsuit off a hanger. Misty proceeds to the greeting card aisle and takes a pair of swim goggles out of her cart and places the goggles in her sweatpants pocket. Misty then proceeds to the automotive section and places the swimsuit down her shirt. Misty proceeds to the self checkout paying for the items in her shopping cart. Misty makes no attempt to purchase the swimsuit or the swim goggles then proceeded out of the store passing all points of sale. Misty was stopped on the sidewalk outside the store with the stolen items by Jodi. PO spoke to Misty who admitted to stealing all the items that were recovered. Jodi filled out a witness statement and a victim’s rights form. In total Misty stole 3 items totaling $52.93. The items included Time and Tru Women’s Lattice Bikini Top, Time and Tru Women’s Skirtini Swim Bottoms, and a Hydro Flare goggles 2 pack. All items were returned to Walmart. Photos of the stolen items will be attached to this report as well as a video from Walmart. Security video from the incident was placed into GPD property as evidence. Misty was issued her copy of the citation and advised of her mandatory court date.
Fire Investigation
On April 27, 2024 at approximately 6PM police was patrolling in the area of East Fourth Street and Locust Street when PO observed dark black smoke coming from the area of Laurel Street and Warren Street. PO then observed a garage that was detached from the house on fire at 121 Laurel Street. PO spoke to Ronnie Isaacs and Suzanne Isaacs who live at 121 Laurel Street and the garage was theirs. PO asked Ronnie and Suzanne if anyone was inside the garage, they stated no. Shortly after, the Greenville Fire Department arrived on scene where they put out the fire. PO spoke Rick Rehmert (Richard Rehmert) who lives at 101 Warren Street, where he stated that he saw smoke flowing across the alley while he was on his back deck. Suzanne stated that she was watching TV with her granddaughter when she noticed smoke outside. Ronnie stated that he was taking a nap when Suzanne screamed the house is on fire. After further investigation the Captain stated that the start of the fire was undetermined at this time but the fire started in the area of the fuse box of the garage. A Sgt took photos. Ronnie, Suzanne, and Rick filled out written statements. Nothing further.
