Thomas Edward Miller

September 15, 1937 — January 3, 2024

Thomas “Tom” Edward Miller, 86, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born September 15, 1937, in Darke County to the late Roy S. and Mary Marie (Hamilton) Miller.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Sue Anne Miller; his brothers, Kenneth Miller and Jim Miller of Greenville, and Jackie Miller of Pennsylvania; and his first wife Joyce of Greenville.

Left to remember him is his loving wife Ruby (Stoner) Miller, whom he married May 13, 1995; sons Ronald (Lisa) Miller of Fort Loramie, and Kent Miller  of Greenville; daughter, Rose (Scott) Miller of Dayton; grandchildren Josh Miller of Russia, and Jayme Miller of Versailles; and great-grandchildren Karlee, Kinslee, and Colton. Also surviving are stepchildren Sandy (Randy) Cox of New Madison, and Danny (Patty) Baker of Brookville; 7 step-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-great-grandchild; his brother-in-law, Al (Shirley) Stoner of Macy, Indiana; and his cats, Sophie and Tinkerbell.

After graduating from Gettysburg in 1956, Tom proudly served his country in the US Army from 1961 to 1966.  After returning from service, he worked at the Greenville Bakery, Hobart Brothers, and mowed the cemetery with Ralph Stephens and Jody Fisherback. Tom was a foreman of a crew for Ludy Greenhouse Manufacturing, and retired from GTI in 2003, where he was known as Papa Smurf.

Tom loved cooking, camping, hunting, and painting cement statues.  He was known for decorating the outside of their home for every holiday, dressing up as Uncle Sam, and as a leprechaun.

A celebration of Tom’s life will take place at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor Robert Bitner officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery.

Guests may visit with Tom’s family on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
